We're Going to be Friends - White Stripes

I honestly think this is such a great video! D-PAN does some great videos in sign and I adore this song. For those who sign it is easy to see that English and ASL are very different syntactically. For those of you who don't sign, it is a common belief that you must sign every word said but in reality it is every "idea" that needs to be signed. Anyways, it is such an adorable video and I thought I'd share!

Choo Choo Train

This weekend was hands down one of the best weekends I have had at school! My two close friends from high school came to visit. I was super pumped to see them but I think they were more excited to play with my iPad. They were in awe and couldn't believe that I was going to have to return it at the end of the semester. I got a little bummed thinking about it myself. Haha! Well either way, it came to be Saturday night and we forgot to look up train times for the girls to headed back to NY. It was a late night of dancing and being silly in NYC that when we got back the last thing we wanted to do was wait for my computer to load to look up a train time. I whipped out my handy dandy iPad and got the train times up in 5 minutes (maybe less). It was awesome because after I wrote down the times we just passed out and didn't have to worry about figuring everything out in a panic on Sunday. My friends were so grateful to sleep in - as was I.once again the iPad has saved the day again. How am I going to ever let this baby go at the end of the semester!

Under the Covers

Dear followers, Current location: under the covers. Current dilemma: attempting to finish assignments while my roommate sleeps in our silent, dark room. Current thoughts: how the hell am I going to do that!? Luckily my iPad is charged and ready to go! The screen is bright enough to see in the dark but not too bright that it bothers my sleeping roommate. Also the keyboard is completely silent! This is kinda sick and twisted that I can talk about my roommate when she's about 7 feet away... but really it's kind of awesome. Anyways, on a more were note than the act that I'm under the covers writing a blog I have been doing some app rersearch. I found an app that I fell in love with. It is called My Talk Tools (lite). Even though it is the free demo version, it is a great way to visualize, hear, and practice vocabulary words and even phrases. The creator's son Michael was born with a disability in which he was unable to speak, therefore, his father came up with this free application where teachers and parents can author this tool and customize it to their child's daily life. My favorite part was seeing how I could add a picture, then add text but choose to either record my own voice or turn my text to speech. Amazing! Who knew I could become an author to my on program? I'm so happy I came across this app because it could definitely help me while working as a Speech Pathologist. My only complaint so far about this iPad is probably the spell check. I'm new with touchscreen and this baby is super sensitive that I can't even spell a two letter word correctly! What a shame. Well it's getting late so I'm about to knock out in my cozy bed and I look forward to hearing from you all soon! Yours truly, Dee at her dorm room :)

My First Blog Sesh!

Cheers to my first blog post! I am loving everything about the iPad. It's FANTASTIC! It is easy to carry on-the-go, quick, and extremely trendy. As a resident with a demanding schedule this iPad is the perfect tool to take on the go. My backpack has at least 10 pounds of text books and notebooks so this iPad adds about a feather's weight to my load. The speed is also phenomenal. I can't begin to tell you how many times my iPad has saved my booty when I needed to check my lecture notes on Blackboard right before class. Also... I feel cool as hell! My friends are jealous of me because I have obtained an iPad. They are a hot commodity because very few of them have one and are one of the hottest items on the market. After reading chapters 1-5 from The Mobile Academy I have come to realize that the is a mobile revolution in the works. The cell phone has turned into a computer while the computer is turning into a plethora of tools. It's amazing to see how far society is come with technology. Using the iPad is truly going to test my skill to see if I'm as strong of a student as I thought with learning new learning techniques. Say a prayer, I'm entering into the mobile revolution... I hope I make it out alive and I don't get too attached to this little baby! Yours truly, Dee from Schmidt Hall :)
