We're Going to be Friends - White Stripes

I honestly think this is such a great video! D-PAN does some great videos in sign and I adore this song. For those who sign it is easy to see that English and ASL are very different syntactically. For those of you who don't sign, it is a common belief that you must sign every word said but in reality it is every "idea" that needs to be signed. Anyways, it is such an adorable video and I thought I'd share!

  1. This is great! How long did it take you to learn how to sign Denise? How long does it take to become a proficient signer?

    1. I'm glad you enjoyed the post! I am in the process of learning ASL and only started in September 2011. To be a perfectly fluent signer the individual would have to be exposed to signing at a very young age. For an individual learning to sign at a teen or adult level, we are accustomed to the prescribed rules of the oral language while signing. For a native speaker of English it is difficult to understand word order and syntax of a signed phrase because the glosses a very different even though it is American Sign Language. Maybe in a few months or a year I will be fluent :)
